Subject Description

Throughout Exercise Physiology students develop the ability to analyse health and physical activity information critically, using it to create and execute personalised plans aimed at maintaining healthy and active lifestyles.

Through practical applications students learn to apply more specialised movement skills and complex movement strategies and concepts in different movement environments. The curriculum also provides opportunities for students to examine fitness components, training principles and energy systems.

The course appeals to students with varying backgrounds and physical activity knowledge. It also prepares students for future Stage 1 and Stage 2 PE courses with core content relating to physiological, anatomical, and skill-learning applications.

Cost: Approximately $60.00 to cover gym visits, community excursions, bus travel. Dependent on negotiated practical, additional costs may apply.

Content
  • To develop, enhance and exhibit attitudes and values that promote a healthy lifestyle.
  • Students explore movement concepts and strategies.
  • Students develop capabilities and skills such as critical and creative thinking, communication and collaboration.
  • Students make meaning of the cognitive and psychomotor processes fundamental to the learning of physical activities.
Assessment

Students provide evidence of learning through three assessment tasks. Evidence for each task/
investigation should be up to a maximum of 6 minutes for an oral or multimodal presentation, or up to a maximum of 1000 words.

Students undertake:

  • At least one Improvement Analysis Task
  • At least one Physical Activity Investigation
