Subject Description

Take the Stage 

Throughout the course, students will continue to deepen their understanding and appreciation of dance. They will engage in both practical and theoretical components while exploring various dance styles and techniques. Students will also have the opportunity to learn and create more advanced choreographies and perform their dance pieces at our showcase nights.

Year 9 Dance aims to further develop students’ physical capabilities, artistic talents and critical thinking skills, preparing them for future dance studies.

Content

Students will explore aspects of the following topics:

  • Understanding and applying choreographic devices and structures
  • Preparing for and participating in group performances.
  • Developing stage presence, confidence and the ability to engage the audience.
  • Exploring different dance genres such as Contemporary, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Ballet and cultural dances.
  • Creating and performing original dance compositions.
  • Developing proficiency in various dance techniques specific to different genres.
  • Practicing core dance elements: alignment, balance, flexibility, coordination and control.
  • Applying knowledge of safe dance practices to prevent injuries and enhance physical performance.
  • Investigate the origins and development of various dance styles and genres.
Assessment

There are practical and theoretical assessments in this subject.
