Subject Description

Dance Fundamentals

Throughout the course, students will begin to understand and enjoy Dance more deeply. They will participate in both practical and theoretical lessons, exploring different dance styles and techniques. Students will also have the chance to learn how to create their own dance routines and perform them, if they choose, at our showcase nights.

Year 7 Dance aims to develop students’ physical abilities, artistic talents, and critical thinking skills to prepare them for future studies in Dance.

Content
  • Learning and using choreographic tools and structures
  • Building confidence and learning about stage presence and how to apply it
  • Exploring various dance styles such as Jazz, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Ballet and cultural dances
  • Learning how to create and perform their own simple dance pieces to the class
  • Developing fundamental skills in different dance techniques specific to each style
  • Learning about core dance elements such as alignment, balance, coordination and control
  • Learning about safe dance practices to prevent injuries and improve physical performance
  • Investigate the basic history and development of different dance style, genres and pioneers of dance
Assessment

There are both practical and theoretical assessments in this subject.
