Year 9

Year 9 at TWC is a significant year for our students. The year can be seen as a ‘right of passage’ for each student who passes through our school. Moving from the Gilap Wanga Learning Community into the Thomas Ryan Building invites an environment of independence and academic challenge. Students in Year 9 will also have the opportunity to participate in leadership roles and contribute to supporting our younger children of the college.

Year 9 is a special year at the college with 9SHINE taking centre stage. The 9SHINE team provide a safe environment for students to grow and thrive in their final year in the Middle School culminating in the 9SHINE Camp in term 4. Throughout 9SHINE students explore the themes of gratitude, empathy and mindfulness, as well as Outdoor Education, the Child Protection Curriculum and the Health Curriculum.

In addition to 9SHINE, specialist offerings double in time enabling students to delve deeper into their individual areas of interest. Each semester there are 2 choices enabling students to experience 4 self-selected offerings.

In addition to this, please pick two semesters of Health and Physical Education. This option includes selections from our Middle School Sports Academies.

Year 9 is truly a unique experience at Tenison Woods College and is an important pathway into the future years of each individual child.
