Crossways Curriculum

Catholic Schools in SA utilise a Religious Education Framework entitled Crossways. In addition to the Crossways curriculum, we teach the Made In the Image of God (MITIOG) curriculum.

All curriculum areas have a religious dimension: inviting students to examine the world of human culture and the world of religion: exploring a Catholic worldview, fostering the search for meaning and truth, and making links to the Good News of Jesus.

The purpose of Religious Education is to deepen students’ understanding of the Catholic Tradition, to develop an appreciation of its significance in their lives, so that they may participate in the life of the Church and wider society.

Religious Education is a core curriculum area at the heart of a Catholic school, it is a specific teaching area that is planned, taught, and assessed with the same rigor as other curriculum areas for students from Reception to Year 12.

The Crossways curriculum is a contemporary expression of Church teaching which is informed by the Catholic Tradition and is shaped around the following 5 areas of knowledge:

  • God, Us and Faith
  • Sacred Texts
  • Moral Life
  • Church for the World
  • Sacramentality and Prayer

Acquisition of knowledge is not the only goal for this Religious Education curriculum; It also supports students in developing important skills and dispositions through the Wisdom strand:

  • Dialogue and respect
  • Interpretation and seeking truth
  • Discernment and engagement
  • Spiritual and religious self-awareness.

The Made In the Image of God (MITIOG) curriculum is grounded in the Catholic belief that all human beings are made in God's image and likeness.  It celebrates the Catholic Church's teaching which focuses on the dignity of the human person.
