Leaving Families Thank You Celebration
This Thursday night, I am delighted that we will take time to say farewell to a number of families who will complete their formal association with the College, as their last child completes Year 12 this year.
Many of these families have had a long association with the College and I look forward to celebrating with and thanking those families who have committed many years to Catholic education in our region.
Rest in Peace Chris Read
Our prayers and condolences are offered to Jane, Darcy, the Read family and friends at the passing of Chris last weekend. Darcy is a student in the Early Learning and Community Centre. I know our community will gather around the Read family at this very sad and difficult time to support them to navigate the challenges ahead.
Social Justice Sunday - Everyone’s Business: Developing an inclusive and sustainable economy
Last Sunday we celebrated Social Justice Sunday and in their Social Justice Statement for 2017–18, ‘Everyone’s Business: Developing an inclusive and sustainable economy’. The Bishops of Australia call for an economy that is founded on justice and offers dignity and inclusion to every person. Such a society will reject an ‘ideology of the market’ that forgets the principles of justice and equity. Justice must be built into the very foundations of our community, and business can work for everybody’s benefit, not just for shareholders. The excluded and vulnerable must have a voice in decision-making. God is calling us to use his abundance wisely, for the good of all and of our planet.
The Statement calls for an economy that is founded on justice and offers dignity and inclusion to every person. For further details about the Social Justice Statement, visit the Australian Catholic Social Justice Council website (www.socialjustice.catholic.org.au)

Year 10 Reflection Day
Last Thursday, the Year 10 students gathered for their annual reflection day at the Main Corner and Cave Gardens. The focus of the day was “Many Colours, One God” and gave students the opportunity to spend some time reflecting on diversity within the school, local and global communities through a range of different engaging sessions. Students also commemorated the United Nations International Day of Peace through prayer and liturgy at St Paul’s Church. Special thanks to Fr Michael for celebrating the liturgy with us at the end of the day.

Year 8/9 Boys Soccer Celebrate Victory |
The 8/9 Boys Soccer team competed in the SSSSA Knockout Country Soccer Finals in Adelaide last Friday.
In game one, they played Glossop and recorded a resounding four-nil win. Players of note were Soe Ler Moo, who scored 3 goals and Oscar O’Leary working hard in the forward positions. Josh Cornolo was strong in goal, keeping a clean sheet as part of a dynamic back five. Meanwhile, Lewis Stratford added to the score and it was pleasing to note that all came from open, attacking play, boosting the team’s confidence ahead of the big match.
In game two, the Grand Final, Tenison faced a Whyalla side who had accounted for Mount High School in a golden goal period in their semi-final. On this occasion we took an early lead and never looked back. Soe Ler Moo added a further two goals to his opening hat-trick. Gay Lay got on the score sheet and Caleb Gentile rounded off the scoring from a well-taken free kick. The 5-0 final score was no more than the boys deserved, with a resolute defence also laying the platform for the attacks. Broc Linden was also influential in a solid midfield unit that combined really well. A resounding way to notch up our first Soccer Championship trophy and flag – congratulations!
Both the profile of soccer and the standard of our representative teams has improved this year as a result of the introduction of the High Performance Soccer Program and the opportunities it has provided such as the clinics conducted at the College by the Celtic Football Academy and the visit of Harry Kewell.

Year 10 Student Wins Career Expo Competition |
Well done to year 10 student, Bailey Perryman, who won an automotive industry competition at the Rotary Careers Expo in Mount Gambier in August. Bailey’s knowledge and interest in mechanics earned him a $30 iTunes voucher, which was presented to him by Group Training Employment (GTE) representative, Brad Wilson-Smith at the College this week. Bailey completed his work experience this year with Peter Rogers Automotive and plans to take up a career in mechanics once he finishes school.

Class Placements for 2018 |
Planning for 2018 classes is about to begin in both the Junior and Middle School. Staff give deep and careful consideration to the class placement of students, ensuring the best and most informed educational and wellbeing decisions are made. At the beginning of Term 4, Junior and Middle Primary students will receive a note from class teachers regarding this process; please ensure that you discuss this with your child, sign and return the relevant section. Students currently in Years 8 and 9 will work with their home group teacher to identify and name those students who best support their learning at school.
If you feel there are exceptional and valid circumstances for your child that need to be considered, please address these in writing to Jill Rogers, Head of Junior School (R-5) at rogej@tenison.catholic.edu.au or Ian Ross, Head of Middle School (Years 6-9) at rossi@tenison.catholic.edu.au by Friday 27 October 2017 (end of Week 2, Term 4). Please note that requests for specific teachers are unable to be considered.
Thank you.

Can you offer half an hour of your time on Saturday 14 October for our Working Bee?
During the Working Bee we are particularly looking to revitalise the Junior School play areas by laying down bark, painting play equipment and carrying out other forms of maintenance which will ensure the appeal and longevity of the equipment and play spaces. We’d love as much help as you can offer and any time you can spare will be appreciated.
Please bring any gardening equipment you think could be of use: gloves, shovel, rakes, wheelbarrows, even your ute. The working bee will commence at 8:00am. Morning tea and refreshments will be supplied with a BBQ available from 10:00am. For those able to help out, please respond to rsvp@tenison.catholic.edu.au by Friday 6 October.

Archbishop Student Awards |
Congratulations to Year 12 students Laura Turley and Emmerson White for being awarded an Archbishop Student Award over the weekend at St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral. For Faith Leader, Laura Turley, the award comes after she was one of two students in the state to receive the Knights of the Southern Cross Scholarship earlier this year. A total of 54 students from Catholic schools within the Adelaide archdiocese received the Archbishop awards on Sunday. After the Award Ceremony and Mass, there was a gathering where students were able to have photos with the Archbishop and had the chance to meet other student recipients. Well done Laura and Emmerson!

Michael Panckridge Author Visit |
On Tuesday, students in Years 4-9 attended writing workshops with Michael Panckridge. Michael is a popular children’s author based in Geelong. He not only shared his author knowledge but also provided useful and challenging writing tips.
Students were given the chance to develop their story ideas and to ask him questions. It was a very valuable and thought-provoking experience for all students.
Michael has left order forms in the Library to purchase discounted and autographed copies of his books. These orders need to be returned with the money to the library by Friday 29 September.

Term 4 Summer Uniform |
Term 4 is the official time to change to summer uniform for all students. The summer uniform guidelines are outlined in the student planner and on the College website. As part of the summer uniform, the wearing of hats is compulsory for all activities outside the classroom, including recess and lunch. Many students have grown over the winter months and I ask the parents check the length of their daughter’s dresses as they may need lengthening. The required length for all dresses, is knee length.
Given the variances in Mount Gambier weather, if the temperature is below 23 degrees, students are permitted to wear their winter uniform.
For those students in Year 2 who have outgrown their R-2 uniform, they are permitted to purchase the Years 3-12 summer uniform in preparation for their move to Year 3 in 2018.
If you have any queries please contact either the Uniform Shop on 8724 4637 or myself at sandj@tenison.catholic.edu.au
