What a wonderful evening of music the ‘Changing Tunes’ concert was. To a sold out audience, all of our Year 3, 4 and 5 students demonstrated their skill, enthusiasm and confidence as they presented their musical learning from this semester. One of the highlights is always the Year 5 Bands after their semester of instrumental and band tuition, and last night was no exception – what a rapid improvement these students have shown after only receiving their instruments in February! The Year 4 original song ‘Having Fun’ and the Year 3 students/Year 8 Rock Band presentation of ‘Photograph’ were also amazing highlights.
The students were well supported by performances from the Junior Choir, Thunder Drum Corps, Year 7 Band, Big Band, Primary Choir, Year 8 Rock Bands, as well as guest soloists and small groups. Congratulations to all of the students involved!
Of course, a major event like this doesn’t happen with a lot of hard work from many people. A huge thanks to Music teachers Tameka Nube, Penny Mansell, Sally Telford, Marie Holmes, Nathan Creedy and Rebecca Hudson for their ongoing diligence and enthusiasm in sharing their love of music with our students. Thank you to so many of our Junior School teachers who supported the students backstage and at rehearsals and other staff who volunteered to help last night. Lucy Rossi (Performing Arts Administrator), Emma Herring (PR Manager), Music Leaders Chloe Perryman and Liam Fennell, supported by the amazing Friends of Music team, worked together to present an engaging concert that gave our students the opportunity to shine.

Year 11 Retreat
Last week a group of 104 Year 11 students and staff travelled to Halls Gap for their annual retreat. The theme of the retreat was ‘What does it mean to be human?’ Students were provided with opportunities to reflect on what is at the core of their lives, what they value and how to build connections with self, others, God and creation.
The retreat began with a ‘Welcome to Country’ at Brambuk Cultural Centre where the highly engaging Dreaming Story of the region was re-told through story and animation. The theme of being respectful to the land and the people continued through the activities of the following three days.
Students and staff enjoyed the opportunity to relax away from the College environment and participate in a range of large and small group activities as well as time outside appreciating the beautiful setting of the Grampians National Park.
Youth Mass
During the holidays, there will be two Youth Masses. The first on Sunday 9 July and the other a fortnight later on Sunday 23 July. Both masses are at 5.00pm and we would love to see you there.

The Timor-Leste Immersion trip is well underway, with the group of students and staff enjoying a busy first day. They started the day walking around Laleia (the village they are staying in) to see the rice fields and the town centre. They were showed around the local parish and visited the library and the radio station. Next on the agenda was helping build a path around some outdoor seating where masses are held. It was hard work, shovelling and pushing wheelbarrows around, but everyone did their bit. After lunch they all headed to the village of Cairui to celebrate mass with the kids who had finished their sacrament program. They then had to deal with a power outage during tea, but are looking forward to more adventures over the next few days.
Keep up to date on their adventures via our Facebook page over the next week!

Bring Your Own Device information for Parents |
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is an invitational program for students in years 8-12 which allows students to use their own tablet or laptop for classwork at school.
With the end of financial year upon us and NBN rollout nearing completion, there have been many catalogs and advertisements highlighting the endless list of devices available.
To assist parents, caregivers and students, the Portal@TWC website contains BYOD program help and device guidelines. To access the site:
Open the Portal@TWC site tenison.catholic.edu.au/parent-information, or Google ‘Portal@TWC’
Select the ‘Parent Information’ tab at the top to view the steps, from invitation to device setup.
NBN internet connectivity is well worth considering if available in your area, as the rollout has provided even greater connectivity to school ICT services such as Citrix Xendesktop and Office365.
If you have any questions about BYOD or the school’s ICT services, please contact the ICT department via the ‘Contact ICT’ tab on the Portal@TWC website.

Titans Basketballers represent State |
Tenison Woods College year 9 students Madison Haggett and Emily Close have been selected to represent South Australia Country Team. This year the u16s Australian Junior Basketball Championship is being held in Perth Western Australia.
Representing the state in these teams form a vital pathway from participation through to elite competition for the nation’s junior athletes, allowing young Australian basketballers to display their talents against the best athletes in their age group from across the country and provide a pathway to progress through junior and youth programs, to hopefully one day represent Australia.
The u16 women are also coached by head of Titans High Performance program Daniel Stratford who is lead assistant coach with the South Australian State women’s program.
South Australia Country play their first game at 10.00am WAST (12.30 Mount Gambier time) against A.C.T. on July 8.
You can follow the girls games on http://basketball.net.au/championships/u16s-australian-junior-championship/

SESSSA Girls Football |
The 8/9 Girls Football team have yet again been successful within the SESSSA 8/9 Knockout Competition, winning their second round game against Nuriootpa at Tintinara Football Oval on Friday 30 June.
The Titans girls played an outstanding first half of the game, scoring 2 easy goals against the opposition, creating a score of 2.5 to 0.1.
In the second half, the ball didn't leave our side of the field due to a great effort by all of our players. Unfortunately, Nuriootpa's defence were in overdrive, making it difficult to for the girls to kick between the goal posts. However, they were still able to maintain their lead, winning their second round and progressing them to the semi-final.
The goal kickers for the day were Tulle Perryman (2) and Ella Little (1).
Best players were awarded to Kayleigh Taylor, Emmason Ilsley, Ellen Brown, Charlotte Bruhn and Charlotte Turner.
Well done to everyone involved and good luck to the girls for their future game.

NAIDOC Week |
Throughout all areas of the college, NAIDOC Week 2017 has been richly observed and celebrated. The week emphasises the role that Aboriginal languages play in cultural identity, linking people to their land and water and in the passing on of Aboriginal history, spirituality and rites, through story and song. The 2017 National theme is “Our Languages Matter”.
Classrooms have been busy creating products to acknowledge the week, engaging in activities and participating inclusively between the sub schools. While individual rooms have their own stories, some of the broader whole school initiatives include:
- The unfurling of the new aboriginal flags in the gymnasium
- Each home group receiving a hand painted boomerang ‘gift’ form year 6/7 students for prayer tables
- A variety of ‘dream time’ football matches (black, yellow and red coloured Guernseys)
- Staff vs Student Futsal match.
- Special indigenous prayer liturgies in daily devotions.
- Visits to indigenous ‘Cratibul’ garden
- Flag raising ceremonies
- Buddy classes with dream time story telling
- Face painting – aboriginal flags, dot paint designs
- Weaving demonstration
- Aboriginal music on PA system
- Dot painting
- Bush Tucker BBQ – sampling of crocodile, kangaroo and emu meat
- Sugar Loaf Café offering special indigenous foods
Overall, a wonderful observance of a significant week with rich learning experiences for all students.

Year 1 Fairy Tale Day |
Throughout Term 2, children in Year 1 have been learning about Fairy Tales. To celebrate this learning they all participated in the annual Year 1 Fairy Tale Day. The children came dressed as their favourite fairy tale character and participated in a number of activities in their classrooms. Children also had an opportunity to write their own fairy tale book (with scaffolding and support from their teachers) and also made an item to go with their book. The books they created were amazing and extremely imaginative as were their creations that they made. At the junior school assembly, they paraded for the junior school to show off their amazing costumes and sang a fairy tale song. Thank you to all parents for your assistance with creating these costumes.

Reception Art Exhibition |
Last Wednesday night, the Reception staff and students hosted the annual Reception Art Exhibition. This year’s theme ‘Autumn Inspired’ gave the children a familiar and relatable platform on which to base their works of art.
Throughout the term, the Reception classes spent time practising techniques and experimenting with a variety of mediums before creating the final pieces for display on the night. With a focus on ‘their world’ the children observed the changing seasons, reflected on personal experiences and used these as inspiration for their art works.
This year, students displayed up to five pieces of work titled ‘Autumn in My World’, ‘My Leaf’, ‘An Autumn Day’, ‘Autumn Collage’ and ‘Zen-tangle Leaf’. The exhibition was also adorned with brightly painted autumn leaves that the children had fun painting as well.
The smiles and joy on the faces of our youngest students as they shared their work with loved ones really captured why the night is so special, so we truly thank families for supporting the event and joining us on the night.

Week 9 Soccer Carnival |
Year 8/9 Girls Soccer
Last Wednesday, the year 8 / 9 girls played a hard fought and competitive game against a well-organised Grant High School side. The team was led expertly by Letitia Izzo who also dominated in defence. She was ably supported by Bella Nelson and Anna Fox on either flank and we welcomed Ella Little and Hayley Vanderhorst to the side at short notice. Despite playing with only 9 outfield players from the start, Emily Hanel did well to keep the Grant strikers at bay. That was until a top corner thunderbolt broke the deadlock, meaning we ended the half 1-0 down. In the second half, I was really pleased that the girls were able to maintain position and create chances going forward. Rose Irakoze epitomized the “never say die” attitude with numerous runs forward from deep inside her own half. We rode our luck as Grant hit the woodwork twice but we were also unlucky not to find an equalizer in the dying minutes. A loss but a superb effort all round. Well done.
Year 10 Boys Soccer
The combined year 10 boys team were pumped from the start and came out firing against a quick Mount Gambier High School side (which contained many local league representatives). Tenison Woods College dominated the opening exchanges, and it is fair to say, we should have been three nil up early on. Unfortunately, we didn’t take our chances and as the half wore on, Mount started having more control and began linking up in attack, despite Austin Rossi’s best efforts to disrupt them. Mount Gambier High School broke the deadlock and scored another shortly after, with a quick counter-attack which caught us cold as the half concluded. So the half-time team talk was thrown up in the air and the boys had to re-group. We started the second half with belief that one goal would bring more rewards, and Ed Evans was busy on the wing trying to create from out wide. Perhaps our first touch in and around the box let us down and when a third went in from distance, the heads dropped and so did our composure and discipline. The 6-0 final score flattered the opponents and undermined the great 25 minutes we put together in the first half. Overall, hopefully this will be a big learning curve moving forward.
