Newsroom
This weekend we celebrate the Fifth Sunday of Lent and then next Sunday Holy Week begins with the celebration of Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord or Palm Sunday as it was called.
This final newsletter for term one provides an opportunity to reflect on the journey and give thanks for the many good things that have happened throughout the term. I congratulate students on their commitment to school life, which has been evident in application to learning experiences, school events and class activities.
I have seen many examples of staff, students and parents SHINE +. Such journies start small, but with confidence and support of those around us I am confident that we will see our commitment to being our best selves make a significant impact on those around us in a variety of ways.
The impact has been expressed significantly through student, staff and parent efforts in relation to Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion Campaign. The school’s commitment to fundraising has been one rich expression of our community’s desire to bring about change in our world. Fundraising throughout the six weeks of Lent is contributing to the Project Compassion Campaign that champions the message “Give Lent 100%” which throws a spotlight on our global challenge and how our aspiration for true justice can transform lives.
We are encouraged during Lent to move beyond awareness to action that changes us, others and the world around us, and that endeavor will be richly on display during the Caritas K’s event on Thursday. That essence will mean that we are living the ‘I’ (Get involved), the ‘H’ (Help others) and ‘E’ (Enjoy positive emotions) of SHINE + with gusto.
The groundwork established in term one will provide a very good foundation for students to build upon in term two. I trust students will find time this week to thank staff members for their work throughout the term.
It is also timely to reflect on the many people; students, staff, parents, and friends of Tenison Woods College, who have offered their time and talents to our community this term. Canteen helpers, parents who listen to reading and support class activities, those who offer their talents to committees such the Board and PTA and officiate at school events all provide testimony to the generosity so rich in our community. I sincerely thank these people for their commitment to creating community through their service to our school.
