Awesome Author of the Week

This week’s awesome author is Year 12 Student Shayla Jones, Shayla, recently created this haunting piece entitled “From Guts to Dust” as part of her English Assessment Type 2 – Creating Texts.
The vignette is a powerful snapshot of a young soldier in the midst of the trenches in World War I. Shayla provides exquisite attention to detail in shaping a very real image in the reader’s mind before juxtaposing this sullen setting to one of surrealism and buoyant freedom.
Shayla is a Year 12 student who enjoys spending time with her friends and family. She partakes in netball and delights in reading. Shayla has a twin sister, Keeley, with whom she is playfully competitive and they are both very talented writers. Both girls have been an integral part of the Tenison Woods College Community since their years as Reception students. When asked to name something ‘special’ about the College, Shayla said that “the teachers really care about us and want us to succeed”.
