2018 Year 12 student Sophie Donaldson has received a prestigious award at the 2019 South Australia Certificate of Education (SACE) art show. The exhibition opened on Monday 18 March at the Light Square Gallery exhibition in Adelaide.
The exhibition features paintings, sculptures, drawings, costumes and multimedia works by Year 12 graduates from 2018. Sophie submitted a 3-piece project titled ‘Id, Ego and Superego’. This piece earned her a ‘Regional Encouragement Award’ which was presented to her at the event.
This opportunity saw Sophie try her hand at new techniques. “I have never done a portraiture before this project and had not done a lot of painting so it was a big step”. Sophie says she was supported by her mum Ruth Stephenson and College Visual Arts teacher Jane van Eeten. “I had the initial idea but they helped me along the way to make it a reality”.
Sophie hopes to specialise in Art Therapy when she completes her Bachelors in Psychological Science as it would combine her two passions, Art and Psychology.
Fellow 2018 College graduates Maddie Jude and Ashlyn O’Hehir were also nominated for their artwork.
