On Thursday 21 March the College was awash with orange as students and staff celebrated our diversity and Harmony Day theme ‘We All Belong as One’. Students wore orange t-shirts, ribbons, socks or accessories to signify their commitment to cultural diversity. The theme was embraced by all sectors of the College with the student leaders organising many activities on the day.
As students and their families arrived at school in the morning, they were greeted by our Senior School student leaders handing out orange ribbons and asking people to take a pledge to support diversity within our community. This was particularly poignant in the aftermath of the Christchurch tragedy.
The Early Learning Centre also embraced the day with each room focusing on a variety of activities throughout the week under the theme ‘we are all equal’. Students read stories, learnt songs and greetings in other languages and celebrated the many different cultures within the centre.
The main focus for the other 3 sub-schools were the lunchtime activities that were organised by the Junior School STARs and the Middle and Senior Student Councils. Students enthusiastically purchased food from different countries, participated in international games including a soccer shoot out, had their hair braided and joined in on many of the other activities that were on offer during lunchtime.
The day culminated in a very successful Harmony Day Dinner where parents, friends, staff and students shared a sumptuous array of international dishes.
