Year 12 student Breydon Verryt-Reid has received special recognition for the 2019 Lions Youth of the Year. The Lions Youth of the Year program is a public speaking and development program designed to increase interest in leadership, build confidence, and develop an active interest in participation in the community.
On Tuesday, Breydon attended an interview to review his application and achievements so far. He then read a prepared speech for 5 minutes, then answered 2 impromptu questions for 2 minutes.
Breydon explained how he came to be involved with the Lions Group, “I got involved with Youth of the Year through a local Lions club, who I spoke to late last year about my trip to France for the end of WW1.”
At the Mount Gambier Lions clubs final, Breydon won the local Youth of the Year award and the Public Speaking award. Tenison Woods College received the School Participation Award.
Breydon will now attend the district final and if successful there, he will compete at a state level.
