The Tenison Woods College Years 8 - 12 Athletics Carnival is being held on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 February at Marist Park. Both days will combine the championship track and field events with the novelty, fun and colour that are an integral part of the College sports day.
The Athletics Carnival is a compulsory school event and as such students are expected to be at Marist Park on the Thursday and Friday, where attendance will be taken. On Thursday after a normal school morning, students will be required to be at Marist Park from 12.00pm to 3.20pm and from 8.35am to 3.20pm on Friday. Students must bring a hat with them, a water bottle and sunscreen.
There will be a BBQ/canteen available for all students and parents to purchase food and drink throughout both days.
The theme for this year’s carnival is ‘Heroes and Villains’, and we invite students to dress up and incorporate their house colour into their outfit. The theme will only be held on Friday with students required to dress in full PE uniform for the entire day on Thursday. Dressing in a costume is not compulsory, however we hope to see the students getting into the spirit of the day by wearing house colours.
The new athletics program is structured so any student wishing to participate in an event has the opportunity to do so. Field events will run for 45 minutes and students can participate at any time while the event remains open. Track events will still take priority and heats will be run depending on how many students wish to be involved. Championship points will still be awarded for the first eight placings in each event and then a single point awarded to every other competitor for their house.
An Interschool Athletics squad and an Adelaide Athletics squad will be selected from the Championship program. These teams will compete on Wednesday 20 March and Monday 25 March respectively. If selected in either squad, students will be involved in trainings during the week following the Athletics Carnival. All members will be notified of their selection early in Week 5.
Let’s hope for good weather, I look forward to seeing everyone at Marist Park on Thursday and Friday.
