On Tuesday 12 February, Tenison Woods College celebrated the new school year with the 2019 Welcome and Community Gathering Evening. This was chance for families to meet teachers and mingle in a casual setting.
Families from the College's Junior, Middle and Senior schools took advantage of the opportunity to catch up with their children's teachers and other key staff, while enjoying a bite to eat, compliments of the College.
The Junior School held a BBQ for families to enjoy after they had met with teachers and visited classrooms. The atmosphere was excellent as Parents chatted with their child’s Teacher and fellow Parents while the children laughed and played happily together on the playground. The BBQ proved a real success with all food and drinks handed out by the time the Junior School part of the night wrapped at 5.30pm. It was wonderful to see families sharing in these special moments as they prepare for the year ahead.
Over by the Moorak building, a Burger Bar was set up for families in the Middle School, followed by an information session held in the upstairs area of the Pam Ronan Centre, where families were able to hear about their child’s daily routines, special events, BYOD, PAM and special activities. Head of School Ian Ross, Year 8 Wellbeing coordinator Sharon Brodie and CIM team member Chris Lloyd presented an online segment, with dedicated videos and information relating to Studiosity, Home study, Sport, Middle School Action Groups and Faith formation events.
There was a warm buzz in the Pam Ronan Centre for the Senior School part of the night, with students, families and staff appreciating the opportunity to chat and get to know each other. It was clear that positive connections were forming which will be invaluable in supporting our students through the year.
In the coming days, Pastoral Care teachers will be contacting families who were unable to attend the evening, in the spirit of building positive working relationships. Opening these channels of communication will allow us to best support your child this year. Schooling works best when students, families and staff work as a team, so we encourage parents and carers to become as involved as possible.
As part of the College’s new initiative to SHINE+ in 2019, free bottles of water were handed out as opposed to soft drinks, to keep in line with the ‘Be Healthy’ or the ‘+’ part of SHINE+. This proved to be a rousing success, with positive feedback from both Parents and Staff.
This was the best attendance at such an event for many years, so we are appreciative of everyone for being so willing to contribute to the community spirit of Tenison Woods College.
