Newsroom
Congratulations are in order to the Tenison Woods College HPSP Basketball Student-Athletes who trialled and were selected for 2019 SA Country Basketball teams. These student athletes not only showed off their talent but displayed strong work ethic, positive attitudes, resilience and team work to earn their selection.
However I strongly commend all of our student athletes that attended the recent trials, all displaying excellent self-confidence and no fear to put themselves in an intimidating environment under selection pressure. We are very strong on encouraging and empowering our student athletes to strive for what they want in their heart and not being afraid to fail in front of their peers and coaches. I am very proud of all of our student athletes and for those who were not selected, this is nothing other than a learning experience and stepping stone towards future success.
In the under 18 State Performance Program, Emily Close, Emily Dawe, Mikaela Horrigan, Sarah Nulty, Harry McInnes, Jaidyn Lawrence and Oli Thomson were all successful in their recent trials, and will compete in the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup held annually in Albury in January 2019. A female and male Under 18 State team will be selected from this tournament, which will play in Townsville at the 2019 Australian Junior Championships from 13-20 April, 2019.
In the under 16 State Performance Program, Josh Holmes, Noah Sims, Ollie Mcinnes, Tara Bryant and Khalahni Edwards were selected in their respective trials, allowing them the opportunity to compete for SA Country early in 2019 and put their names forward for under 16 state selection.
Our successful under 15 students were Zac Nulty, Lochie Thiele, Joel Bryant, Alyssa Duncan and Rori Perryman, who will also have the chance to represent SA Country early in 2019 and fight for a spot in the under 16 state sides.
To round out our successful student athletes, Annelise Janssen, Paige Exelby and Harry Wright were selected in the under 14 divisions, providing an opportunity to compete in the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup held annually in Albury in January 2019. Although these two are not yet in our High Performance program, they have showed strong values and skills through SAPSASA tournament play and will be welcome additions to the program in the coming years.
The HPSP team and basketball Coaches wish all of our SA country representatives the best in their coming trainings and competitions.
