The year 10 girls travelled to Millicent on Wednesday 24 October for the qualifying round of the year 10 girls state knockout basketball competition.
The girls started off strong with a game against cross town rivals, Mount Gambier High School. Some dominant performances from Emily Dawe and Lucy Denton lead to the girls winning the game in convincing fashion. The final score being 45-14 in Tenison Woods College’s favor. The girls then continued this dominant play style into the second and third games for the day.
The second was played against Penola High School. This game was a little bit more high scoring with some strong numbers again coming from Emily Dawe and she was accompanied on the score sheet heavily by Hannah Nitschke. The Entire team was on from every spot on the floor in this game which led to a final score of 60-17. The final game of the day was against Naracoorte High School in what was yet another blow out performance.
Kayleigh Taylor lead all scorers but was assisted well by Emily Dawe and Lucy Denton. It was another good performance by the smaller players as they were able to harass the opposition in the open court, leading the turnovers and easy fast break points. The final score was 56-15. The team now joins the year 10 boys and the year 8/9 boys and girls team in the state final in Adelaide during week 5 of this term.
Congratulations and good luck.
