Chris Lloyd commences Christian Pilgrimage

05.09.18

One of our staff members, Teacher and Librarian, Chris Lloyd, has commenced her pilgrimage to the shrine of the apostle St James in Santiago Spain. (Tradition tells us that St James’ remains were carried by boat form Jerusalem to Northern Spain after his beheading)

The Camino de Santiago has been an important Christian pilgrimage since the Middle Ages. Walkers that complete more than 100km and enter the beautiful cathedral in Santiago receive the Compostela, a certificate of accomplishment.

The pilgrimage is an opportunity for Chris to grow spiritually, to grow closer to nature and to challenge herself physically. The landscape gives lots of time and space for reflection and there are many important historical sites on the route as well to explore. The Spanish culture and food may be an attraction too.

After completing her walk to Santiago, Chris is then heading to Israel to visit places she has been teaching about but never personally experienced. She particularly wants to walk the Via Delorosa, believed by many to follow the path that Jesus took, carrying his cross, on the way to his crucifixion.

Following Israel will be time in Egypt to tick other places of her bucket list and then to England where time at the world largest geodesic dome, the Eden Project, is a priority.

We wish Chris a safe journey, and look forward to hearing the stories of her Pilgrimage on her return.
