Recent Eisteddfods 2018

15.08.18

The past month has been a very busy time for our vocal and instrumental students as well as our choirs and ensembles, many of whom participated in the Mount Gambier Choral and Vocal Eisteddfod and also the Mount Gambier Music Eisteddfod.

In the Choral sections, we were very proud of the way in which our students participated. The adjudicator, Will Conyers from Melbourne, was particularly impressed by the number and depth of our choirs. He created a new award, the ‘Adjudicators Choice award’, and awarded this to our Primary Choir. The results for our choirs were Primary Choir (Year 3/4/5) 1st, Concert Choir (Year 8-12) 2 x 1st, Music Connection (Year 6/7) 1st, Senior Vocal Ensemble (Year 8-12) 2 x 1st.

Our ensembles also performed with distinction and should be very proud of their efforts. The results for our ensembles were Concert Band 1st, Big Band 1st, Brass Ensemble 1st, Year 6/7 Band 1st, Saxophone Quartet 1st, Woodwind Ensemble 1st. Congratulations to all students and staff involved.

In the individual sections, we had a very large number of Tenison Woods College students participating. Congratulations to Scott Hanel (year 8) who was successful in winning the Majella Wines Scholarship. Congratulations also to Dylan Leadbetter (year 10) and Faith Bierwirth-Leigh (year 9) who were successful in winning their heats to compete in the Majella Wines Scholarship.

Some other notable individual awards were to: Gabriel Strachan (year 3) who won the Under 12 Years Young Performers Scholarship, Ryan Creedy (year 7) who won the Under 16 Years Junior Brass Scholarship and Mercedes Scott (year 10) who won the Under 16 Years Junior Piano Scholarship.
