The Tenison Woods College Year 8/9 boys knockout football team travelled to Bordertown on Monday of Week 2 to take on the Eastern Fleurieu School - a multi-campus school, located in Strathalbyn.
The Tenison boys came up against some extremely strong opposition and were tested in many areas of the game.
The game started with our captains and state representatives, Harry Tunkin and Harry McInnes winning the toss and electing to kick with the wind in the first quarter. This proved a smart move after conceding the first goal of the game, the Tenison boys went on to kick the next seven, with Harry McInnes being responsible for four of them.
The momentum swung in the favour of the Eastern Fleurieu School in the second quarter as Tenison Woods College was kept goalless. The game tightened-up and forced the College boys to have to work hard to reinstate their dominance in the second half.
The push was led by ruckman, Oscar Adams. He consistently provided the mid-fielders with first use of the ball, while also winning himself a fair chunk of the footy around the ground. His work in the middle is what led to a very competitive third quarter with Tenison Woods College kicking three goals to two. In the final quarter the Tenison boys dug deep and they proceeded to win the quarter five goals to one while kicking into the breeze. Ethan Bowman and Sam Jennings really stepped-up one the back line, locking down their opponents while also mopping-up any loose ball in the back half. Tom Yates moved up the ground and made a major difference on the game. Young mid’s Mitchell Sims and Ollie McInnes also played a great game, winning a lot of the ball in tight contests around the ground.
The boys went on to win the game 15.10.100 to 8.4.52 and will now travel to Adelaide to compete in the State Final.
