Tenison Titans Director of Basketball and Head Coach
I am delighted to inform the Tenison Woods College community that under a new Titans Basketball Program and High Performance approach, Richard Hill will be the Director of Basketball and Tom Daly will be the Head Coach.
As many would know, Richard is the current coach of the very successful local Pioneers Team which is part of the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL), and Tom is the current captain.
I am delighted with these appointments and the depth of experience, elite performance acumen as well as abundant personal qualities they will both bring to our High Performance Sports Program for males and female students. I also offer special thanks to Kate Exelby, Ciaran Buckley, Scott Dickson, Grant Lean and Neal Turley for their efforts in the Tenison Titans Basketball Program transition process.
We wish Richard and Tom well in their appointments, and I trust you will all offer them the characteristic Tenison support, as they commence their roles and become a part of our wonderful College community.
Middle School Student Leadership
I was delighted to attend this Monday’s Middle School Combined Homegroup Assembly and present to the Middle School Representative Council their leadership badges. It was also pleasing with committed Coordinator, Mrs Tania Sigley, to reflect on their involvements and achievements so far, ranging from: Harmony Day Activities; GRIP Leadership Day; Whole School Charity Day; NAIDOC Week; and Healthy Food Project. I also look forward to their efforts with R U OK?Day later this term.
The students who have committed to the SRC are:
Edie Jones Skye Flint Amy Finnigan
Lilah Lamb Sari Mutton Daniela Ortiz Kaiser
Samara Herpich George Wimshurst Patrick Brodie
Milla Buckingham Will Goodes Liam Turley
Keeva Shepherd Angus Domaschenz Matthew Godrik
I thank each of the students for ‘putting their hand up to help out’ and having a significant impact on the school community and beyond by their leadership, thoughts and actions. I also encourage them to wear their College Leadership Badge with pride and gravitas, knowing the critical role that they play in the school and their modelling of servant leadership.
Watoto Choir – Joy and Inspiration
Thanks to Michelle Coote, our Catholic Identity and Mission Team and everyone who supported the visit of the Watoto choir last week. Thank you for the support in the way of hospitality, food, serving and cleaning up meals, promoting it and of course those who attended. The 450 people who attended St Paul’s Church enjoyed a wonderful ecumenical celebration, and the faith and joy displayed by the choir was inspiring. There was also a great support from the local Congolese community, inspiring some of them to share stories of how they were helped by the Watoto Church while in Ugandan Refugee camps. It was moving to hear these stories from some of our College and St Paul’s parish families.
“It’s hard being catholic sometimes!”
With the issues of same-sex marriage, euthanasia, child abuse and the Royal Commission, all in the public forum, parishioners and the general public are invited to a free public lecture by Monica Doumit. She is a regular columnist for the Catholic Weekly and has been involved with many of these issues. It’s on Saturday August 11 in St Paul’s Hall at 2:30pm. See the flyer in our churches or click here for more details of her visit to the South East and Adelaide. Come along and discuss these big issues and how we can respond as Catholics.
Reception Enrolments 2019
I advise parents and caregivers that interviews are well under way for all 2019 Reception Enrolments. We invite parents or caregivers and students to schedule an interview time with Mrs Jill Rogers, Head of Junior School, to formalise their child’s enrolment for 2019. If you have a child who is due to start school in 2019 and have not received a letter, please contact Tracey Davey on 8725 5455 who will help you organize this.
