Hard-working Students devote their time for Charity

01.08.18

While most students have been spending their Saturday mornings sleeping in, playing sport, working or checking social media, a number of very committed students have been helping run the barbeque at the Rotary Market for the month of July.  This service is in return for the generous support of the Rotary Club of Mount Gambier for Tenison Woods College’s first annual Charity Day titled ‘Cans, Coin, Casuals for a Cause’ that was held last term. The day was organised and led by Year 12 students, taking on this year’s College motto of ‘Hand Up, Help Out’.

Over $4,000 was raised for some very worthwhile local causes, with $1,000 being presented to the college by the Rotary Club of Mount Gambier. Thanks must also go to Mount Gambier West Rotary Club who donated proceeds from Pizzas and Mount Gambier Lakes Rotary Club for their donation of proceeds for popcorn and spiral potatoes at the recent Cans, Coin and Casuals for a Cause Charity Day.

Charities the funds were donated to include: South East Animal Welfare League Mount Gambier, Headspace Mount Gambier and the Sunset Kitchen. Along with the fundraising, students were asked to each bring a can of food as a donation to the St Vincent de Paul Society. In total, more than 1,300 cans were collected and donated locally to Vinnies.

The students that helped over the month were Year 12 Students Evangelia Wichmann, Sarah Edwards, Ingrid Chizungu, Christie Marsh, Piet Rudiger (Year 9 Exchange Student), Alix Lescure (Year 12 Exchange Student), Kristina Burtt, Elly Walters, Caitlyn Poel and Sienna Rossi.

Well done to these students for your generosity.
