Year 12 Student Courtney De Barro is heading to Tryon, North Carolina, USA to compete in an International Tetrathlon in a team of 4 male and 4 female 16-21 year olds.
Courtney has a strong history of competing in Equestrian sports, in both State Interschool and Pony Club teams at National events.
In the Pony Club Competition she competed in Tetrathlon. The two National Tetrathlon Competitions ever held have seen her gain top 10 finishes at both of these events. Tetrathlon is a sport consisting of 4 phases: cross country running (3km), swimming (200m), air pistol shooting (10m) and an equestrian phase incorporating show jumping, cross country jumping and negotiating obstacles both mounted and un-mounted. Tetrathlon is considered a development pathway to Modern Pentathlon, a sport in which Australia gained Olympic Gold in Rio.
Courtney attends training sessions 6 times a week, working her horses on weekends as well as playing A-grade netball. Courtney has been well supported by Sean Quirke and everyone at Tenison Woods College to continue her Year 12 studies while training for the upcoming International Tetrathlon event.
This year she applied for and gained selection in the National Tetrathlon Team based on her outstanding and consistent competition results. We wish Courtney all the best as she travels over to represent Australia.
