Founder’s Week and Whole School Mass

Next week (Week 7), we will celebrate the Founders of Tenison Woods College. This is an opportunity for the community to reflect on the contribution of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, Venerable Catherine McAuley, Fr Julian Tenison Woods and St Marcellin Champagnat to our community and to celebrate the way in which we can follow in their footsteps of faith, action and community. Please refer to the Founder’s Day poster in this newsletter for details of house days and activities.

We look forward to student participation, as well as the attendance of parents, carers and family at at the Whole School Mass to be held on Thursday 14 June, Charity Day, at 9.00am in the Barrie Holmes Stadium.

Cans, Coins and Casuals for a Cause -  Hands Up Help Out

On Thursday 14 June students from across the College will participate in 'Charity Day' to assist in raising money for the less fortunate members in our wider community. There will be activities throughout the day, run by student leaders. Activities will be starting at recess and finishing up at the end of lunch. Students are encouraged to bring some coins and a can, and wear their casual clothes. Cans will be donated to Vinnies, with proceeds raised on the day to local charities. Each Sub School has nominated their Charity:

The nominated charity for the Junior School is:  The South East Animal Welfare League

The nominated charity for the Middle School is:  Headspace

The nominated charity for the Senior School is:  The Sunset Kitchen

Thank you to the College Captains, Evangelia Wichmann and Daniel Ker for showing outstanding leadership in the organisation and facilitation of this event.

Staff Professional Development Days – 7 and 8 June

Staff are looking forward to the staff professional development days, tomorrow Thursday 7 as well as Friday 8 June, when they will look at two specific areas:

  • Wellbeing and Resilient Futures -  with the support of SAHMRI
  • Our Whole School Action Research Project, informed by workshops conducted by Rowena Ulbricht that will consider 21st Century Learning Design – self-regulation and knowledge.

I trust the community will experience the benefits of these days through our service to students and families throughout the College. I remind families that these are student free days and Monday 11 June is a public holiday.

Drop Off and Pick Up Safety

I remind parents/carers that caution is required when dropping off or picking up students on White Avenue.

As White Avenue is a 60km/h zone and a high flow traffic area, it is advisable that parents drop off and pick up students on the Tenison Woods College side of the road.

Please consider other drop off/pick up location points such as the 'kiss and drop' areas within the school grounds, Marist Park parking area or Shepherdson Road where students can utilise the dedicated school crossing.

Papal Appointment for the Archdiocese of Adelaide

I invite you to read the letter from Bishop Greg O’Kelly, Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Adelaide. We offer our support and prayers for Bishop O’Kelly at this time. Please read here.
