On Thursday 14 June, Tenison Woods College will be hosting our first Charity Day.
‘Can, Coins and Casuals for a Cause’ is the catch-phrase for this whole school event that gives our students the opportunity to raise money for those who are less fortunate in our local region.
We have planned and created this day based on what we aimed to do when we were voted to be School Captains, which is not only to help those in our community by following this year’s motto ‘hands up help out’, but also try and bridge the gaps between grades in our school. Throughout the day, students will not only be given the opportunity to raise money for their sub-school charity, but also interact and break the invisible divisions between grades during activities and games organised by the Year 12 students.
The three regional organisations we will be supporting on the day are South East Animal Welfare League, Headspace and Sunset Kitchen, as well as the St Vinnies Can drive.
As parents and a community, we now ask you to help support this day, as it will only work if we all work together. We have put a lot of work and time into this day and hope that you and all the students will make the most of it and learn more about those less fortunate in our community in the South East region. We ask the students to bring a can, coins and wear casual clothes (gold coin donation) on this day.
The Charity Day activities will run between recess and lunch (following the Whole School Mass in the morning). There will be normal lessons after lunch.
The Year 12 students have organised interactive activities which will mostly be free of cost, however some will require a small donation, optional, ($0.50-$1.50) due the requirement of materials (eg doughnuts, lollies and henna).
At recess, there will be food stalls under the sails led by the sub-school council groups with things like jelly and baked goods for sale. At lunch, Rotary (West and Lakes) will be coming to sell a variety of foods including potato spirals ($4.00), popcorn ($1.00) and pizza ($5.00). There will also be a BBQ ($2.00) and noodle/rice stir fry ($2.00) provided by Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program and the Sugarloaf Cafe.
Although this is open for all students, it is optional, with all donations going to the three charities. We hope you will support our day and that the students enjoy being part of the first annual Charity Day.
