Newsroom
The annual Cardijn Exchange is over for another year and it was a close run to the finish line with Cardijn coming out on top, winning the exchange 6 to 5.
Volleyball
In the Girls Volleyball, the Tenison girls used their skills and finesse early on. They showed some good determination and fight in the first set which helped them to keep pace with their Cardijn opponents and only just came away with a first set loss. In the second set our girls couldn’t find their rhythm and the Cardijn girls had things their own way. Cardijn ran away with an easy set win to win the overall match 2 sets to nil.
Best players were Sarah Opie and Chelsea Croser.
In the Boys volleyball, Cardijn came out of the blocks hard and caught Tenison off guard. A few early mistakes by the Tenison team gave Cardijn a strong 10-point lead which was too hard to come back from and Cardijn won the first set easily. In the second set Tenison had a change of attitude and came out with a big comeback on their mind. We hit a big streak of points and had all the momentum. 1 was all they needed and they were able to come away with a 2 – 0 victory.
Best players were Kyle Jones and Matt Black.
Football
In an extremely wet and windy day for football the Tenison boys were looking to hold their dominance over Cardijn for the last 8 years in the football. The 1st term consisted of a very strong wind blowing to Cardijn’s end and they managed to score 1 goal with it. The rain then came down with force in the 2nd term and this took away the wind factor. Our boys were slow to adapt to the conditions and Cardijn were harder at the ball and set up quicker. Cardijn managed to score another in the 2nd term, while we couldn’t score a goal. In the 3rd quarter the rain continued and our effort finally started to reap some rewards. Kyle Jones provided excellent run from the wing and kicked an amazing running goal from distance in the wet. Toby De Wit then kicked an Eddie Betts like contested snap from the pocket to bring us within 5 points just before the 3 quarter time siren. Our boys were positive and energetic at 3 quarter time and ready to give it one last crack. We came out hard, but Cardijn scored the first goal of the quarter and then got lucky with a couple of goals to rub it in.
Best players were Finn Grimes and Kyle Jones.
Basketball
The Tension basketball program continued to shine at the Cardijn Exchange, dominating from the opening tip in both women’s and men’s games respectively.
Great performances from Olivia Slattery, Emily Close, Kayleigh Taylor and Tara Bryant paved the way for dominate victory 57-15.
The boys game was another domination from start to finish for the Titans with solid performances from captain Finn Grimes, Alex Jarnevic and Matthew Black. The final score 57-32. All Tenison Woods College basketball athletes represented the College with pride, and continued to build as team, looking forward to rolling into knock-out basketball in Term 3.
Debating
Tenison Woods College started off the Cardijn exchange with the first competition being Debating. This year’s topic “Should languages be compulsory in schools to year 12”.
Tenison Woods College debaters battled hard and put forward a great argument, only to narrowly just go down 287-283.
I would like to thank Portia Holdman, Nadia Metzger and Laura Cesario for representing the school with pride and debating with great passion.
Futsal
The second event of the Cardijn exchange was men’s and women’s futsal which would be a hard task for the young and unexperienced Tenison Woods College team. The lady Titans fought hard throughout both halves, but the classy Cardijn side were just too strong humbling our girls 9-nil.
The men’s futsal game was to be a much closer affair, with Tenison having plenty of opportunities to lead throughout the first half. The Titans continued to fight and battle keeping the crowd on the edge of their seats but again the well drilled and coached Cardijn team were just too strong winning 5-3.
Netball
The A Netball was a tight contest between the two teams with a buzzer beater shot from Emma Gould to give Tenison Woods College a 5 goal lead at quarter time break. There was some fantastic defensive work by Sophie Ellis and the defensive line up to create many opportunities for the goalies to convert, however, some errors were made in attack that meant the girls were in for a tough last quarter. Nevertheless, to the girls credit they took many hard hits from the strong-playing Cardijn girls to come away with an 40-32 goal win.
Best Player: Sophie Ellis Sportsmanship: Emma Gould
The B Netball girls came out firing in the first to end the quarter with a 11 goal lead. The momentum in the second and third quarter changed with the Cardijn girls fighting back and getting within 4 goals. Chelsea Croser was fantastic in Goal Keeper position, getting many rebounds and intercepts that were crucial to convert, however, many errors got in the way of converting on the scoreboard. Tara Bryant ran hard all day feeding in beautifully to the goalies and also getting a few defensive intercepts. To the girls credit they pushed hard in the last quarter to come away with a 42-32 goal win.
Best Player: Chelsea Croser. Sportsmanship: Tara Bryant
