The Tenison Woods College open boys football team kicked-off their 2018 campaign on Tuesday 8 May at Vansittart Park against Mount Gambier High School.
The game started on the side of the Mount High boys as their captain won the toss, but their fortune only lasted up until the umpire threw the ball up to start the match. The Titans looked hungrier, faster and more switched on around the footy which allowed two quick clearances from Vice Captain Tye McManus, setting up two quick goals for Harry McInnes. The Titans pace continued for the remainder of the quarter as they kept Mount High scoreless while kicking five goals for the quarter.
The second quarter began in very similar fashion with some slick work from the on-ball trio of Sam Willis, Tye McManus and Alex Harkness. This allowed for Harry McInnes to continue his form in front of goal and provide good opportunities for Louis Merrett to put his stamp on the game with several impressive marks. The second quarter also proved to be the highest scoring for the game as Tenison Woods College booted six goals one behind, while Mount High just kicked two goals one.
In the third quarter, the pace of the game slowed down as fatigue started to set in for both teams, but some impressive play from Finn Grimes kept the Titans well in control of the game. Tenison Woods College put the icing on the cake in the fourth quarter as they were able to produce five goals while only keeping Mt High to two for the quarter. This came off the back of some impressive play of Harry Tunkin out of the midfield and Captain Sam Willis in front of goal.
The Titans ended up 90 point victors in the game and advance to the next round. Best on ground performances from Tye McManus, Harry McInnes, Finn Grimes, Sam Willis, Harry Tunkin and Louis Merrett.
