Andrew Chinn and Sacred Stone

We have been very fortunate in the last month to have been visited by 2 separate liturgical music performers. On the last day of Term 1, Middle School students were treated to a performance by visiting Rock Band Sacred Stone. The Band is based in Adelaide and were very well received by our adolescents.

In week 1 of the second term, Andrew Chinn returned to the South East after a break of a few years and performed at the 3 Catholic schools in the area. Andrew worked as a classroom teacher in Catholic Primary Schools in Sydney, Australia for nearly twenty years before moving into his full time music ministry.

Students from Early Learning to Year 5 as well as the Family Mass singers, attended workshops during the day which culminated with a high energy concert after lunch.

We thank Ms Higgins and Ms Holmes for coordinating the visits of these 2 performers and for providing outstanding liturgical music opportunities for our young people.

May: the month of Mary

The Catholic Church in the month of May has a tradition believed to have come from Baroque times of spiritual devotions to Mary, the Mother of God. This custom of organising a spiritual exercise for each day became a practice across the Catholic Church in the nineteenth century and continues today. The ways Mary is honoured is as diverse as the people who honour her in prayer, art and music.
In particular, this week we remember Mary through the love shown in the words and actions of our own mothers which we celebrate in Australia this Sunday 13 May.
