Year 6 Tenison Woods College student, Ellie Mullan competed at the Australian 'Champion of Champions Highland Dancing Championship' in Newcastle over the weekend. The championship is Australia's most prestigious highland dance competition that happens every two years attracting competitors from Scotland, New Zealand, Canada and Australia. Ellie achieved well above expectations. She just missed out on the top six in the NSW championship but placed in two dances. A young girl from Scotland won the event.
Ellie came runner up in the Festival of Tartans restricted premier title (11yrs) and won the Novocastrian title. Ellie was the only South Australian competitor in her section with the majority of competitors coming from New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, Queensland and New Zealand. Ellie is amongst the best highland dancers in Australia for her age and is competing currently at the highest level.
Well done Ellie!
