2017 Charity Ball

07.06.17

Tension Woods College students and guests were the ‘Rainbow in Someone Else’s Cloud’ on Friday 2 June when they purchased a ticket to support the 2017 Charity Ball. All proceeds from the event will be distributed to the Timor-Leste communities visited by students in this year’s immersion trip.

Both male and females alike looked amazing with special mention going to Ellie Gould who was voted ‘Best Dressed Female’ and Josh Koennecke, ‘Best Dressed Male’. There were many other awards presented on the night to various Year 12 students. Thank you to School Captains, Lauren Homes and Jordan Gould for presenting the awards and adding context and humour to each award.

Tension Woods College staff got the dancing started with a surprise flash mob to Juju on That Beat.  Principal, David Mezinec and Chinese Teacher, Bo Wei Xu especially wowed the crowd with their exceptional dance skills. The students feasted on donuts from the donut wall and lollies from the lolly bar while savoury items made by the Sugarloaf café didn’t disappoint. The snapchat filter certainly made it fun to share the night’s festivities with those friends who couldn’t attend. Overall it was a great event and the students (and staff) danced the night away to a shuffle playlist (songs requested by the students prior to the event). There was a prize up for grabs for the last song of the night. This was won by Year 12 student, Liam Fennell and the song was Ignition by R Kelly.

A night like this doesn’t happen without the support of many people and I would like to take this opportunity to thank a few.  To Emma, Jess, Georgia and Jase in the PR Department, a huge thanks for putting this event together especially given your busy term. To Jase for being MC and DJ, as always a job well done. To the Mount Gambier City Council, thank you for allowing us to use the City Hall free of charge, it is an amazing facility. To Donut King for the discounted donuts, the only complaints from students was there weren’t enough! To the Sugarloaf staff for donating their time to prepare the food for the night, as always there was more than enough and it was delicious. To Olivia and the front office staff for processing payment and collating all the student information and Lima and Co for donating $5.00 from every corsage sold. Finally, a massive thank you to all the staff that danced and helped out in any way on the night, you are all amazing.
