The Sacraments of Confirmation & First Eucharist
I was delighted that our young were celebrating their Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist at the weekend masses with Father Dean Marin, following their participation in the Parish Initiation Program over the past 10 months. In our Catholic tradition we understand that children have been Confirmed in their Baptism for the renewal of the gift of the Holy Spirit in their lives, and receive the real presence of Christ our Saviour, as our Bread of Life, in their First Holy Communion. I thank all who have been involved in their preparation. Firstly, I thank their parents for their involvement in the preparation sessions and all the work that they have done and continue to do with the children at home. I trust that the journey for children, parents and their families has been one that has enriched their relationships. Furthermore, I hope families have appreciated the ‘space’ to communicate explicitly with one another about their relationship with God, and other dimensions of their life journey that are intrinsic to how we view the world, but we might not often make the space to discuss with those dear to us.

I also congratulate Mrs Carol Chislett, our Parish Pastoral Associate, APRIM - Michelle Coote, Rebecca Higgins and Sandra Quirke, members of the Parish Liturgy Committee and Tenison Woods College staff for the way in which these young people have been prepared for their Confirmation and to receive the Eucharist for the first time.

31st Annual Cardijn Exchange
I was very pleased to witness the spirit with which students from Tenison Woods College competed during the 31st Annual Exchange, held here at the college on Monday and Tuesday this week. Well done to all students involved and to Tenison Woods College students who won the shield for the third year in a row. The sporting and debating competitions were characterised by high skill level, team spirit and fair play. Sincere thanks to all parents, staff and students who contributed to the success of the exchange, with special thanks to Mr Ciaran Buckley - Sports Coordinator, Morgan Fisher - Sports Administration Trainee, and the Health and Physical Education Team for their leadership of another successful exchange.

Harry Kewell
Australia’s ‘Greatest Ever Footballer’ Harry Kewell, will be visiting Tenison Woods College this week as an official guest of the High Performance Sports Program.

Harry will be conducting an exclusive closed training session for the students currently enrolled in the Tenison Woods College HPSP/IGNITE football program.

The visit, which will be a highlight on the HPSP calendar will provide the opportunity for our athletes and their families, as well as the wider community to hear first-hand, from Harry what it takes to reach the very top and will include ‘A Night of Inspiration’ with Harry Kewell in the Barrie Holmes Stadium this Saturday 3 June. If you are interested in booking a ticket for this event, please contact the College.

China Trip: 14 – 29 April 2018
I invite members of our community to express interest in a trip to China in 2018. The trip is being organised by Snowie Aarts in collaboration with Annie Clifford and will be a great chance to reconnect with some of our Chinese sister schools. What a wonderful way to experience China as part of a delegation that is being greeted by our warm and enthusiastic Chinese friends who are keen to repay our hospitality during their recent visits.

Staff Professional Development Days – 8 and 9 June
Staff are looking forward to the staff professional development days on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 June, when they will look at two specific areas:

  • Wellbeing and Resilience in our Community – Scoping and Sequence of EY-12 Program with the support of SAHMRI
  • Our Whole School Action Research Project, informed by workshops conducted by Rowena Ulbricht that will consider 21st Century Learning Design – Self-regulation and knowledge.

I trust students and parents will experience the benefits of the days through our service to students and families throughout the College. I remind families that these days are student-free days.

Enrolment of Students
I am very pleased to see that the College is experiencing unprecedented demand in relation to enrolments. To assist with our medium and long term planning, I encourage parents to lodge an enrolment form with the school as soon as they have made a decision to enrol their child at the school. For some families this decision is made very early in the newborn’s life and contacting the school at this time, no matter how early it may seem, will assist us to plan in the best possible way for your child’s experience of education in our College community.  Should you wish to discuss this further please contact our College Registrar, Tracey Davey (Phone (08) 8725 5455, or email davet@tenison.catholic.edu.au).

God Bless,
David Mezinec | Principal
