Open Boys Football

16.05.17

The Tenison Woods College 2016 Runner Up State Championship Football Team have had a great start to the 2017 season, defeating Mount Gambier High School in a physical match on Wednesday 10 May at North Gambier Football Oval.

The boys started the first quarter off strong with three goals kicked in the first five minutes, leading 6.1 to 1.1, creating a difficult score to chase for the Mount High boys. At the end of the second quarter, the Tenison Woods College Titans lacked in defence, allowing Mount to kick two goals, making their score 3.4. The boys didn’t give up; with determination and strength, they continued to dominate the field in the attacking end, creating a score of 10.4.

The second half of the game became quite physical and competitive, however, this only increased the boys’ performance, pushing a lead Mount knew they couldn’t reach.

In the end, the Tenison Woods College Open Boys won 19.10 to 8.7, progressing them through to the second round which will be played at Keith against travelling schools from Adelaide (schools are yet to be confirmed).

The goal kickers for the day were Finn Grimes 5, Declan Carmody 3, Reece Lillecrapp 2, Sam Willis 2, Harry Porter 2, Caleb Gibbs 2, Jordan Gould 1 and Tye McManus 1.

Best players were awarded to Will Stafford, Declan Carmody, Reece Lillecrapp, Sam Willis and Finn Grimes.

We wish these boys the best of luck for the next round and well done to all involved.
