Open Girls Cricket

08.03.17

Tenison Woods College played Mount Gambier High School in the Open Girls cricket on Tuesday 7 March, defeating Mount Gambier High 4 for 72 to 10 for 65. The girls won the toss and elected to bowl and this proved a wise decision as Lucy Williams took a hat- trick in the first over to have Mount Gambier High reeling at 3 for 0.

A partnership then formed for Mount Gambier High before Zoe Duncan changed the game taking a wicket and then with a brilliant piece of fielding ran out the dangerous batter. Regular wickets then finished the innings at 10 for 65. Lucy Williams was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 6 off her 2 overs well supported by Maddie Pulmer with 2 for 19, Bella Stratford 1 for 0, Emily Close 1 for 2, Zoe Duncan 1 for 4 and Tayla Werchon 1 for 25.

The girls then made a rocky start with Tayla Werchon dismissed in the first over before a strong partnership from Maddie Pulmer and Bella Stratford steadied the innings and put the game in Tenison Woods College’s favour. Highlighted by some big hitting and good running between the wickets, the girls moved the total along to 45 before Maddie Pulmer was dismissed for 14 and just one later Bella Stratford (22) was caught on the boundary. The game was now up for grabs again and some good patient batting was required. Led by Lucy Williams and well supported by Jordyn Adams and Zoe Duncan, the girls navigated the final 20 runs to secure the victory with 2 overs to spare.

The game was played in great spirit with plenty of laughter and fun had by all with the result a bonus. The girls now move on to defend their 2016 State championship title in Week 8 of this term.

Good luck girls.
