SA Health visit Tenison Woods College to provide the School Immunisation Program to our Year 8 students. This ensures all adolescents in South Australia have access to immunisation services.
The program consists of the following vaccines for all Year 8 students over three visits; a three dose course of Gardisal, the HPV vaccine, one dose of the chickenpox vaccine and one dose of Boostrix for diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough. The Year 8 cohort had a visit from a SA Health representative that took the students through the importance of being vaccinated for these diseases.
SA Health Nurses will visit on 1 March, 9 May and 12 September to deliver these vaccines. Students are encouraged to wear their PE uniform, make sure they have a good breakfast and bring their water bottle to school to ensure that they are staying well hydrated throughout the day. Immunisations are completed in lessons 1 to 3. If students are worried about the immunisation, there is the ability to ‘skip the queue’ and get their injections completed during Home Group so the worry does not build up. Reminders will be put in the appropriate newsletters, in your child’s planner and on the Skoolbag App.
Any concerns please contact Sharon Brodie.
