Yesterday we celebrated the graduation of our Year 5 and Year 9 students, as they finish up in their current sub-school and prepare themselves for the transition into Middle and Senior School.
The Year 5 Graduation took place at 9.15am in the Barrie Holmes Stadium, where 180 proud parents, family members and friends enjoyed an entertaining song and dance presentation from the Year 5 students, as well as musical items by the Year 5 Band. Students were presented with their certificates of graduation and ended the event with a beautiful photo montage from their time as Year 5 students in 2017.
Following the Year 5 Graduation was the Middle School Awards Ceremony and Year 9 Graduation. This also took place in the Barrie Holmes Stadium and was attended by local dignitaries including City Of Mount Gambier Mayor, Andrew Lee and District Council of Grant Mayor, Richard Sage. Students from years 6 to 9 were recognised and awarded for their outstanding achievements throughout the year and Year 9 students received their certificates of graduation as they move into Senior School in 2018. Over 250 family members, friends and special guests enjoyed performances from Middle School music students, including the Brass Ensemble, the College Big Band and Year 8 vocalist, Zoe Aberle.

Father Dean – 40 years of Ministry
This weekend we celebrate the ministry of Father Dean and 40 years of service to parishes in the Diocese of Adelaide. At this time, we offer thanks to Father Dean for his commitment to the vocation to which he has been called and the enthusiasm with which he ministers to the people of our community. At Tension Woods College we are particularly thankful for Father Dean’s outstanding commitment, while at the same time serving a very large South East Deanery up to Bordertown and through the Southern Ports. This support is expressed in a variety of life-giving ways for our people, our ideas and structures, and importantly for our Catholic culture and charism.
As we celebrate Father Dean’s ministry and leadership we pray for his continued good health, enthusiasm for his vocation and wisdom in his service.

Advent & Giving to others
Advent is the season of preparation for Christmas as we ready our hearts and homes for the birth of Christ. This Sunday will be the 2nd Sunday of Advent.
Gifts can be placed under the College’s “Giving Tree” in the front office before the end of term. A presentation will take place at the end of term to local agencies AC Care, Saint Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army. In all classes, students will be discussing ways to share the joy of Christmas with others and the Giving Tree is one way we can do this. We encourage families to consider purchasing a gift to place under the tree to be distributed to those in need in our local community.
Australian Catholic Youth Festival
The delegation of 18 young people and staff representing the parishes of the South East are currently in Sydney for the biannual Australian Catholic Youth Festival. They will be joining 18,000 other young people at the Olympic Village.

If students are still looking for work in 2018, please e-mail Marie Hoare with interests and applications. Admin/office work or hospitality/reception work or trades building/auto are available.
All jobs will be sent out via email until the end of week 9. After this time, students will no longer be on the school’s email list. Please email Marie or phone (08) 87 244 616 if more information is required.
Students can access their results on Tuesday 19 December. If preferences need to be changed for South Australian Universities or TAFE then this would be an opportune time (other states do have earlier change of preference dates so please check their websites).
Marie Hoare will be available at the College on Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 December, if any help is needed with this.

While the holidays are a festive time of year, they can also be a time of great stress for parents. There are presents to be bought, friends and family to entertain and money to be spent. Also, let's not forget the cooking, the cleaning and general tasks that are expected. The festive season, not surprisingly, can be one that causes anxiety for many of us who are trying to balance parenting along with all of the other responsibilities and expectations that come along in December.
There are ways to survive the festive season and holidays, however.

On Thursday 14 December at 12.00 midday family, friends and former work colleagues, will gather with Fr Michael for the dedication of a memorial and prayers in memory of former student, Steven Whitehead, who passed to eternal life Saturday morning 19 November, 2016.
The red wood timber seat memorial, masterfully crafted by the artisan, Douglas Childs, is situated in front of the Moorak Homestead, and facing the Sugarloaf Mountain, acknowledges the life of Steven, taken tragically with three other young men and employees of Tabeel Trading, as the result of an accident in the early hours of the morning near Penola while they were travelling to work.
